Introduction and Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Literfy, an AI-powered academic literature search and review writing platform. By accessing or using our service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with any of these terms, please discontinue use of our service immediately.

Description of Service

Literfy provides researchers, students, and academics with tools to:

  • Search academic databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, Semantic Scholar)
  • Organize and manage research papers and citations
  • Generate AI-assisted literature review outlines and drafts
  • Export research content in various formats (BibTeX, Markdown, PDF, etc.)

You agree to use the service in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and academic integrity standards.

User Accounts and Registration

  1. Account Creation: You must create an account to access certain features. You must provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration.

  2. Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access.

  3. Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years old to use Literfy. If you are under 18, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent.

  4. Academic Use: You represent that you will use Literfy for legitimate academic and research purposes only.

User Content and Intellectual Property

Your Research Content

  • Ownership: You retain full ownership of your research content, including search queries, saved papers, notes, outlines, and AI-generated drafts.
  • License to Us: By using Literfy, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display your content solely to provide the service to you.
  • Privacy: Your research content is private by default. We do not share, sell, or publish your content without your explicit consent.

Our Intellectual Property

  • Platform Ownership: Literfy's software, design, algorithms, and infrastructure are owned by literfy.ai and protected by copyright and intellectual property laws.
  • AI Models: Our AI models and their outputs are proprietary. You may not reverse-engineer, replicate, or redistribute our AI technology.
  • Third-Party Content: Academic papers, abstracts, and metadata retrieved from third-party databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, Semantic Scholar) are subject to their respective terms and copyright holders.

AI-Generated Content and Accuracy

  • No Guarantee of Accuracy: While Literfy's AI is designed to minimize hallucinations and ground content in real papers, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content for any purpose.
  • User Responsibility: You are solely responsible for verifying the accuracy of citations, reviewing AI-generated drafts, and ensuring compliance with academic standards before submission or publication.
  • Not a Substitute for Professional Judgment: Literfy is a research tool, not a replacement for critical thinking, original analysis, or professional academic guidance.

Acceptable Use and Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

  • Use Literfy for academic dishonesty, plagiarism, or any form of academic misconduct.
  • Submit AI-generated content as your own work without proper review, modification, and citation.
  • Abuse or overload our systems through automated scraping, excessive API requests, or denial-of-service attacks.
  • Share your account credentials with others or create accounts on behalf of third parties without authorization.
  • Violate copyright laws by distributing copyrighted papers or content without permission.
  • Use Literfy for any illegal purpose or to violate any applicable laws or regulations.
  • Attempt to bypass paywalls, access restrictions, or security features of third-party academic databases through Literfy.

Violation of these terms may result in immediate account suspension or termination.

Subscriptions, Payments, and Refunds

  • Subscription Plans: Literfy offers various subscription tiers with different feature access and usage limits. Details are available on our Pricing page.
  • Payment Terms: All fees are charged in advance and are non-refundable except as required by law or as stated in our refund policy.
  • Free Trial: We may offer a free trial period. Credit card information may be required, and you will be charged automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel.
  • Refund Policy: If you are unsatisfied with Literfy, contact us within 14 days of your initial purchase for a refund. Refunds are not available for renewals or after 14 days.
  • Price Changes: We may adjust pricing with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers will be notified before their next billing cycle.
  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time. Access will continue until the end of your billing period.

Literfy integrates with third-party academic databases and services:

  • Google Scholar, PubMed (NCBI), Semantic Scholar

These services have their own terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices. By using Literfy, you agree to comply with the terms of these third-party services.

Data Export and Portability

  • You may export your research content, saved papers, citations, and generated drafts at any time in standard formats (BibTeX, Markdown, PDF, etc.).
  • Upon account deletion, we will retain your data for 30 days before permanent deletion, unless required by law to retain it longer.

Service Availability and Modifications

  • "As Is" Service: Literfy is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
  • No Uptime Guarantee: While we strive for high availability, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access to Literfy.
  • Modifications: We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features or the entire service at any time with or without notice.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our sole discretion if:

  • You violate these Terms of Service.
  • You engage in fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity.
  • Your account is inactive for an extended period (with prior notice).
  • Required by law or to protect our rights and the rights of other users.

Upon termination, your right to use Literfy ceases immediately. You may export your data before termination.

Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LITERFY AND ITS AFFILIATES DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
  • Warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of AI-generated content.
  • Warranties regarding uninterrupted or error-free service.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LITERFY.AI SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
  • Loss of profits, data, or academic work resulting from use or inability to use the service.
  • Damages arising from reliance on AI-generated content or inaccuracies in search results.
  • Damages caused by third-party services or content.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO LITERFY IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless literfy.ai, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of Literfy.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property or privacy rights.
  • Any academic misconduct or misuse of AI-generated content.

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

  • Governing Law: These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which literfy.ai operates, without regard to conflict of law principles.
  • Dispute Resolution: Any disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules, except where prohibited by law.
  • Class Action Waiver: You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis and waive the right to participate in class actions.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on our platform. Continued use of Literfy after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Academic Integrity Statement

Literfy is designed to assist with research and writing, not to replace original thought or academic effort. Users are expected to:

  • Use AI-generated content as a starting point, not a final submission.
  • Properly cite all sources and verify the accuracy of references.
  • Comply with their institution's academic integrity policies.
  • Not submit AI-generated content as their own original work without substantial modification and critical engagement.
